Sovaria vs Firebase

Firebase is Google’s app platform built around Firestore, a NoSQL document database, with pay-as-you-go billing on the Blaze plan. Sovaria gives each project both Postgres tables and Firestore-style document collections under one set of access rules, with a Firestore-compatible SDK, fixed monthly plans, simulation of rule changes and an undo timeline. Firebase has more mobile services (Remote Config, Analytics, A/B Testing), Google-scale infrastructure and a much larger community.

Which to choose

Choose Firebase if

  • You need Remote Config, Analytics or A/B Testing alongside your backend.
  • Your app is document-only and pay-per-operation pricing suits its traffic.
  • You want Google Cloud’s regions and services around it.

Choose Sovaria if

  • You want SQL joins and documents in one project instead of a second database.
  • You want a predictable monthly bill, or to pay in rupees.
  • You want to test who can read what before rules ship, and undo changes afterwards.

Questions

Can I use my Firestore code with Sovaria?

Mostly yes. Import from @sovaria/sdk/firestore instead of firebase/firestore; collections, documents, queries and listeners keep the same shape.

Do users keep their Firebase passwords?

Yes. sov import firebase moves Auth users with their scrypt hashes and your project’s hash parameters, so nobody has to reset.

Are Firebase Security Rules converted?

You get a report with the Sovaria equivalent of each rule. You apply them yourself and check them with a simulation run.

Does Sovaria have Remote Config?

Not yet. A table with a read rule and a live listener covers most uses.
